As is now traditional, the last meeting of the season was our club auction which is open to anyone attending on the day. The material featured included a range of items prepared by our members, many of whom have spares or duplicates of material that need to find good homes. On top of this, there was a decent selection of items donated to the club, including a range of new and partially used stock books that a former member wanted us to have for club funds.
Needless to say, many of these items found a new home on the night and we raised a decent amount of cash for the club coffers.
The letter shown here was just one of the items on the night, a large, A4 size letter, send insured from Paris to London in 1952 with a declaration on the front of it containing “fifty thousand francs or five hundred and seventy-four francs”. I’m not sure which it was, but whatever it was a decent sum to send by post in 1952.
The next season’s dates are now available and can be found on this page.
