Early G.B. stamps and Postal History – 1840 to 1860

The society were delighted to welcome Mr Chris Jones to our late September meeting and we were especially please that he bought his wonderful early G.B. display.

The material tells the story of early mail in G.B. from 1840, from the pre launch and launch of the Penny Black to the use of different cancellations throughout the entire kingdom.

The entire display contained some world class items including 6th May 1840 first day covers with Penny Blacks, early use of the Maltese Cross canceller, pairs and strips of penny blacks and twopenny blues, Rainbow Trial sheets, proofs and postal notices. As usual, photographs of the display are shown below.

The society would like to thank Mr Jones for travelling to visit us and for bringing such wonderful material for us to view.
