Chairman’s evening was a delight of British Central African history
The society were delighted to welcome Ian Cubbin as our guest speaker for the Chairman’s evening, with his display of The Early Postal History of British Central Africa.
The display started in 1858 and told the story of Livingstone’s Zambezi expedition and, followed by his subsequent expeditions, concluding with the founding of the Protectorate in 1891, with a few additional items up to 1895.
The material was astonishing for both its scarcity and for the story it told, ably narrated by our speaker. Everyone present agreed that this was one of the best presentations we had seen as a society and the vote of thanks by Chairman Jonathan Guy, reflected that.
